Helston's museum fills the former Market House of 1837 and its neighbouring meat market and drill hall, and has been collecting the life of the Lizard peninsula since 1949 — mining, fishing, farming and home life from the eighteenth century to the twentieth, with the cannon of HMS Anson, wrecked off Loe Bar in 1807, standing at the door. Since 2013 it has been run by the South Kerrier Heritage Trust, an independent charity with eleven unpaid trustees and some sixty volunteers, which has raised over £1.6m in grants and welcomes more than twenty thousand visitors a year. Admission is free, six days a week.
