Bodenham Arboretum occupies 170 acres of former derelict farmland at Wolverley, bought in 1973 by David and Jennifer Binnian, who began planting trees around two spring-fed pools beneath a protected microclimate bowl. Now run by their son James and a third generation of the family, the arboretum holds over 3,000 species of trees and shrubs, including collections of American oaks, alders and acers, and has held National Heritage status since 1995. A working farm within the grounds rears pigs, cattle and sheep, supplying the on-site restaurant, where visitors can take coffee and cake on the terrace or a carvery lunch using home-reared beef, pork and lamb. James Binnian leads guided walks for groups, taking in the farm as well as the woodland. The arboretum is open all year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
