Archaeologists began test-building reconstructed Iron Age and Roman structures on this site in 1972, opening it to the public for the first time in 1974 as a working laboratory for prehistoric farming methods. Visitors can walk between roundhouses, a Roman villa reconstruction and rare-breed livestock paddocks, and the farm still runs experimental crop trials using ancient wheat varieties as part of its ongoing research.
