Chiddingstone Castle is a manor house remodelled in castellated Gothic style in the early nineteenth century, set in 35 acres near Chiddingstone village. Since 1977 it has been held in trust under the bequest of collector Denys Eyre Bower, whose Japanese lacquer and samurai armour, Egyptian antiquities and Jacobite manuscripts fill the rooms. It operates as an independent, accredited museum with a tea room in the former stable block.
