Compton Verney occupies a Grade I listed eighteenth-century mansion on the B4086 between Kineton and Wellesbourne, set in parkland landscaped by Lancelot Capability Brown. The Peter Moores Foundation bought the near-derelict house in 1993 and passed it to a newly created charity, Compton Verney House Trust, which carried out a large restoration before opening the building to the public as an accredited art gallery in March 2004. The permanent collections include Neapolitan art from 1600 to 1800, Northern European medieval works, British portraits by artists such as Joshua Reynolds, Chinese bronzes, and British folk art. The grounds and galleries keep different hours, with everything closed on Mondays and Tuesdays outside bank holidays.
