The Dominion Cinema is a four-screen cinema on Newbattle Terrace in Morningside, designed in Art Deco style by the architect Thomas Bowhill Gibson and opened as a single-screen picture house in 1938 by Captain William Cameron. The Cameron family has run it ever since, making it the only cinema in Edinburgh that is both independent and family owned. The building was listed at category B in 1993 in recognition of its architecture and surviving original features. Its four auditoria range from a 586-seat main screen down to a 47-seat room, and the cinema offers reclining armchairs and sofa seating in some screens alongside a bar and café. It shows a mix of new releases and repertory programming, and remains under the direct control of the founding family rather than any circuit or chain.
