Fixed Wheel Brewery began in 2014 when Scott Povey, a keen cyclist who had picked up a taste for continental ale on European cycling trips, started brewing at home before setting up a full-mash plant on the Long Lane Trading Estate in Blackheath, on the Halesowen border. The brewery's Blackheath Stout, a fruity full-bodied stout brewed with New Zealand and English hops, won the gold medal in CAMRA's West Midlands regional Champion Beer of Britain competition in 2018. The taproom sits beside the brewing kit and pours up to five cask beers alongside ten keg lines and rotating ciders on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Cans, bottle-conditioned beers and branded t-shirts are sold direct from the tap room, which welcomes cyclists, families and dogs and lies a five-minute walk from Rowley Regis station.
