Two Towers Brewery was founded in 2010 by Mark Arnott-Job, who spent two decades teaching business and economics before turning a homebrewing habit into a working brewery. The name refers to Perrott's Folly and the Edgbaston Waterworks tower, the pair of towers a young J.R.R. Tolkien could see from his boyhood home in Sarehole, which some Tolkien scholars link to the title of his second Lord of the Rings volume. The brewery moved in 2016 to Shadwell Street in Birmingham's Gun Quarter, next to its tap house, the Gunmakers Arms, whose entrance sits round the corner on Bath Street. Ten-barrel batches of cask and bottled ales are brewed on site, including session bitters, milds and seasonal specials, sold through the tap house and supplied to pubs and shops across Birmingham and the Black Country. Visitors can book a brew day or a guided tour of the plant. The building sits within the historic gun-making district north-west of the city centre, close to the Jewellery Quarter.
