Art Byrne and Ken Thatcher run Foyle Books from 12 Magazine Street in Derry's Craft Village, the city's last surviving secondhand bookshop among several that once traded here. Both men taught locally; Byrne now oversees day-to-day running of the shop while Thatcher continues teaching French at Foyle and Londonderry College. Stock is sourced from book fairs, sales and house clearances, and floor-to-ceiling shelves hold Irish literature, history and poetry, Gaeilge titles, French fiction and theology alongside general reading and rare or antiquarian volumes. The shop keeps an online catalogue for browsing stock remotely. Customers can also sell or trade in books at the counter. Foyle Books opens Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm, and Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
