Christine Cowley runs the Cowley Gallery from a shopfront in Derry's Craft Village, a reconstruction of an eighteenth-century street and nineteenth-century square off Magazine Street and Shipquay Street. The gallery succeeds the McGilloway Gallery, opened in 1984 by Ken McGilloway, and today shows a changing selection of contemporary Irish painting and sculpture. Work by the late Pat Cowley, Christine's husband, hangs alongside pieces by sculptor Christy Keeney and other Irish artists. Stock ranges from originals to limited-edition prints, with framing arranged on request. The gallery sits among craft workshops, a coffee shop and balconied apartments within the village, a short walk from the city walls. It opens six days a week, Monday to Saturday.
