Michelle Butler has produced handmade ceramics in County Tyrone since 1998, moving in 2005 to Sperrin Ceramics Studio, a converted stone barn at her home on the Glenpark Road north of Omagh, in the shelter of the Sperrin Mountains. A graduate of Falmouth School of Art, she works in textured stoneware clay finished with metallic oxides and layered glazes, giving her giftware its characteristic depth and relief. The range covers vases, bowls, wall pieces and smaller decorative items, much of it drawing on the landscape and forms around the studio. Pieces are sold through Irish craft galleries and gift shops as well as directly, and studio visits can be arranged by appointment rather than as a walk-in shop. The business is independently run by the maker from this single Sperrins location, and each piece is hand-built or thrown individually rather than mass-produced.
