Moffat Toffee Shop trades from 13 High Street in Moffat, making Moffat toffee to a recipe first sold commercially by Janet Cook Johnstone in the late 19th century. Her great-grandson Blair Blacklock took over production in 1959 when his father became unwell, and the Blacklock family has run the business since. The toffee is still boiled and cut by hand on site, with around 300 kilos produced each week in traditional flat rounds, alongside newer flavours such as Irn-Bru, soor plum and blue raspberry introduced from 2020. The shop also sells homemade chocolates, tablet, fudge, marzipan and boxed sweets. It opens Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Moffat toffee is sold as far afield as House of Bruar, but the shop itself remains a single, family-owned premises on the High Street rather than a wider confectionery chain.
