Peterborough Boat Hire runs self-drive electric boats and paddlesport hire from the Riverside Walk on the Embankment, about fifty metres past the Key Theatre. Incorporated in 2021, originally as SUP6SEE, the business gives access to roughly six miles of the River Nene through the middle of the city. Visitors can take out kayaks, Canadian canoes, stand-up paddleboards or a small electric boat by the hour, or book beginner lessons and improver courses. Guided paddle-to-the-pub trips and multi-day expeditions run for those wanting to go further downstream. The season runs from April to the end of October, daily from 10am to 6pm, weather permitting, with everything launched straight from the riverside walk rather than a remote lake. Booking ahead is advised in summer, and the craft suit families and first-time paddlers as well as regulars.
