Kate Longman took over the long-running Fowey bookshop Bookends in 2020, renaming it Shrew Books after a career that had taken her from bookselling through the BBC's literary rights division, Royal Museums Greenwich and a London literary agency. The shop on South Street stocks new fiction and non-fiction with a strong showing of Cornish authors and nature writing, plus a growing children's section. Longman planned the relaunch during the first lockdown, building the brand and stock list before reopening under the new name. The shop was later shortlisted as a regional finalist for the British Book Awards' Independent Bookshop of the Year, continuing South Street's long tradition of bookselling in a town shaped by its links to Daphne du Maurier.
