The Ashton at 74 West Princes Street in Helensburgh is run by Euan Catterson, the third generation of his family to hold the pub since it opened in 1955, having taken over from his father Gerry in 2012. It trades as a free house rather than tied to any brewery, keeping three regular cask ales alongside guest beers, and is arranged around a nautical-themed bar, a snug reached by a few steps and a separate darts room. During a refurbishment, decorative tiles depicting scenes from Walter Scott's Waverley novels were uncovered behind later panelling and left on display. A weekly Tuesday quiz and Saturday live music keep the calendar busy, and food can be brought in from nearby takeaways to eat at the bar. The pub was named Dunbartonshire Pub of the Year for 2025 by the local CAMRA branch.
