The Benchworks

The Benchworks is a goldsmith's studio tucked into Harrow Inn Close, one of the pedestrian lanes off Elgin High Street. It is owned and run by Helen Teasdale, a jeweller and goldsmith with more than thirty years at the bench, working in gold, platinum, palladium and silver. The studio handles commissions, remodelling of old pieces, repairs, engraving and jewellery valuations, and also supplies tools and materials to other makers. Alongside the workshop, Teasdale runs jewellery-making classes for beginners and improvers, offered as evening sessions or full-day workshops in which students make a finished piece using traditional hand skills. It is a single independent studio rather than a retail chain, and one of the few places in Moray offering hands-on goldsmithing tuition. Bench space is limited, so classes and commissions are booked directly.
