Threaplands began in 1995 as a landscaping business started by Grant Higgins and Kenneth MacRae before developing into a plant nursery, with the current garden centre building opening at Lhanbryde, outside Elgin, in November 2018. Neil Laing bought full ownership with his son Ben and granddaughter Olivia in August 2023, putting three generations of the family behind the business. The centre sells plants, timber garden furniture, compost and tools alongside an indoor retail hall of gifts, homewares and clothing. Its table-service restaurant seats more than 280 and cooks meals from scratch using Scottish ingredients where possible, serving breakfast through to afternoon tea. Threaplands opens seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. Local delivery is offered on larger plant and garden orders.
