Avva Scottish Gin is distilled at Moray Distillery on Chanonry Road North in Elgin, a business founded by Jill Brown in 2015 after she had previously run a fruit liqueur company called Berry Good. Brown, who trained in agriculture at Scotland's Rural College, launched Avva in October 2016 using a bespoke copper still she commissioned from Speyside Copper Works and named Jessie Jean after her two grandmothers. The gin combines eleven botanicals, five of them foraged locally, including rowan, red clover, mint, dandelion and nettle. The range has grown to include a navy strength gin, a pink gin and fruit liqueurs, all distilled, infused and bottled on site rather than bought in and rebranded. The distillery runs tours from March to September, each including a flight of four 10ml samples paired with mixers and finishing with a full measure, followed by a visit to the on-site shop. Avva remains independently owned by Brown rather than part of a larger drinks group.
