The ClayHaven

The Clay Haven opened in April 2026 in Unit B of the redeveloped Cattle Market site in Liskeard, founded by ceramicist and community arts practitioner Claire Menear. Menear built the studio around open-access memberships, wheel-throwing sessions and five-week handbuilding courses for both beginners and more experienced makers, alongside drop-in sessions called Clay As You Go for anyone wanting to work without committing to a course. A separate drying and kiln room sits behind the main workshop, which has hand-built benches and a mural of Bodmin Moor painted along one wall. Funding from the National Lottery Community Fund covers subsidised places for older residents and those referred through local wellbeing services, reflecting Menear's stated aim of using clay work to reduce isolation rather than simply teach a craft.
