Wickenden Meats

Wickenden Meats traces back to a stall run by Grandad Wick at Salisbury market in 1951, and the business has passed through three generations of the Wickenden family since. The current shop sits on Applesham Avenue, on the Hove side of the Portslade boundary, selling traditional flavoured sausages, dry-aged beef, and cuts of lamb and pork butchered to order. Staff put together monthly hampers and bundle deals for regular customers alongside the daily counter trade. The shop keeps butcher's hours, opening early and closing by five, and stays shut on Sundays. It supplies home cooks rather than restaurants, with a focus on cuts prepared while customers wait rather than pre-packed trays.
