Ackers Adventure has run as a charity-operated outdoor activity centre on Golden Hillock Road since 1981, using 75 acres of former industrial land where the Grand Union Canal, the River Cole and the mainline railway all cross. Canoes, kayaks and bellboats launch directly onto the canal for guided sessions and open paddling, alongside a dry ski slope, a snowboard slope, two climbing walls and archery courses built on the same site. The charity exists to open outdoor adventure activities to people of all ages and abilities, including disabled-access sessions run through the week. It operates from this single Sparkbrook site only, run as a self-supporting registered charity rather than a commercial operator, with school groups, families and corporate away days booking sessions across the grounds, a short distance from Birmingham city centre.
