The Art in Perpetuity Trust converted a wharf building on Deptford Creek into studio space in 1995. The 42 studios it now holds are occupied entirely by working artists, who also run the place: each one who takes a studio becomes a member of the charity, sitting on one of three committees that handle the gallery programme, vet new members, or maintain the building. The gallery runs a changing exhibition programme alongside a working sculpture yard and an outdoor performance space on the creek bank. Open Studios, held once a year, is the one weekend the public can walk through the working studios rather than just the gallery.
