Chris and Maxine Brewis started brewing in a garage in Amble, joined by Mathew Bould as head brewer and Craig Stewart, before the family-run operation moved into Unit 4 on the Coquet Enterprise Park in the autumn of 2019 and opened a taproom the following spring. Every beer poured at the taproom is brewed on the same site, a point the founders make plainly: none of it is sold anywhere else. The bar fills out the range with guest wines, local spirits and soft drinks, and a different street-food trader sets up most days the taproom is open, running from fish and chips to Mexican and Caribbean food. RateBeer named Brewis its Best New Brewer in Northumberland in its first year of trading. The taproom keeps to a Wednesday-to-Sunday week, with shorter hours on Sundays than the rest.
