Bunhead Bakery is a Palestinian bakery on Dulwich Road in Herne Hill, opposite Brockwell Park. Sara Assad-Mannings began baking at home during the 2020 lockdown, selling buns filled with za'atar, Aleppo pepper and other flavours drawn from her Palestinian heritage; her father is from North East England and her mother from Jericho. In May 2024 she opened a standalone shop with business partner Georgia Wickremeratne, moving from a one-bedroom flat kitchen to a permanent site. The bakery makes sourdough buns, baklava-inspired pastries and spiced Medjool date bakes, alongside coffee. It trades Thursday to Sunday and is closed Monday to Wednesday. Assad-Mannings has spoken to Time Out, Hyphen and the New Arab about building the business around recipes connected to her family history, and the bakery has become a fixture for South London customers seeking Middle Eastern baking rather than standard high street pastries. It operates from a single premises in Herne Hill only.
