Matt Day opened Daygustation Wines at 13A High Street in Wanstead in October 2020, after two decades working through the wine trade as a Majestic assistant, an apprentice winemaker in the Rheingau and a tastings manager alongside Oz Clarke. The shop favours small, quality-driven producers over big-name labels, and the shelves run from everyday bottles to rarer finds without the pretension Day says he encountered elsewhere in the trade. A back counter sells cheese, charcuterie and deli items alongside the wine, and a handful of barrels outside serve as standing tables for customers drinking on the pavement. Day, who lives locally in Forest Gate, runs weekly tastings and short courses from the shop floor. Daygustation operates from this single Wanstead premises, closed on Mondays and trading the rest of the week.
