Deli Central has traded in Wakefield since 2002, when it was established by Tony and Jean Sykes, and now occupies a unit at 20 Northgate in the redeveloped Bull Ring, having moved from its original premises near Cross Square. The single-site delicatessen bakes its own bread and cakes each morning and roasts its own meat for the lunchtime sandwich counter, alongside a range of wines, olives and continental groceries; it also runs occasional in-store wine tasting evenings and offers outside catering. Run day to day by the Sykes family and a small team, it is among the last independent delis left in Wakefield city centre, having outlasted several chain competitors since opening at the turn of the millennium.
