Glenavy Garden Centre trades from Main Street in Glenavy, established in 1990 and still run by the Armstrong family. Owner Maurice Armstrong built his knowledge of plants over a working life that began with vegetable growing and included a spell as a mycologist with the Department of Agriculture, before he turned to bedding plants, hanging baskets and planted containers. His son Dominic grew up around the nursery, spent a decade in the pharmaceutical industry, and returned to apply that background to stock selection and seasonal colour schemes. The centre stocks bedding plants, trees, shrubs, succulents, pots, compost and hanging baskets, and runs the Glenavy Gardening Society, a members' group offering talks, workshops and quarterly trips. A monthly newsletter and WhatsApp group keep regular customers updated on new stock. The centre opens Monday to Saturday and half-days on Sunday, trading from the same Glenavy site throughout its 35 years.
