Kilchoman is the only farm distillery on Islay, established in 2005 by Anthony and Kathy Wills at Rockside Farm on the island's Atlantic-facing Rhinns. It was the first new distillery built on Islay in over a century, and remains one of only a handful in Scotland still practising traditional floor malting. Barley is grown in the fields around the stills, then malted, distilled, matured and bottled on site, so the 100% Islay releases trace a single farm from grain to glass. The distillery stays independent and family-run, with the founders' three sons now involved. Visitors can take production tours, browse the whisky shop and stop at the cafe for light lunches and home baking. The single-track approach road runs five miles from the main road, ending at the working steading among the farm's own fields.
