Lussa Gin is distilled at The Stables in Ardlussa, at the remote north end of the Isle of Jura, by a small, female-owned team working a traditional still in batches small enough that oil haze in the bottle can vary visibly from one run to the next. Fifteen botanicals go into each batch, led by lemon thyme alongside rose petals, rosehips, lemon balm, lime flowers, elderflower, honeysuckle, bog myrtle, orris root, water mint, sea lettuce, Scots pine and ground elder, with juniper gathered from Jura and wider Argyll. Much of the plant material is grown in polytunnels and community gardens across the island, and the team has planted some 500 juniper bushes around Lussa Glen as a long-term source for future batches.
