The Kingfisher Cafe operates from the visitor centre at Barnwell Country Park, on Barnwell Road between Oundle and Barnwell village, overlooking the park's lake. It is run as an independent business, Kingfisher Cafe Co Ltd, rather than by the council that owns the park itself, serving hot and cold food, sandwiches and home-baked cakes made with locally sourced ingredients. An outdoor decking terrace looks over the water, where visitors regularly spot kingfishers and otters from the cafe tables. The cafe opens every day through spring and summer, and on a reduced weekday schedule the rest of the year, closing earlier on winter weekdays than at weekends. It serves walkers, cyclists and families using the country park's lakeside paths and play areas rather than passing road traffic, and is one of the few catering businesses operating inside the park boundary, building a following among regulars for its cakes and its view of the water.
