Llangollen Wharf, at the terminus of the Llangollen Canal, has offered horse-drawn boat trips since Captain Samuel Jones began running pleasure cruises from the site in 1884. It is one of only three horse-drawn boat operators still trading in the UK and among the longest-established visitor businesses in North Wales. Two horse-drawn trips run along the canal feeder toward Horseshoe Falls, lasting 45 minutes or two hours, pulled at walking pace by a single horse in the traditional manner. A separate motorised trip crosses the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the cast-iron trough carrying the canal 38 metres above the River Dee, part of the site's UNESCO World Heritage designation since 2009. Self-drive day boats are also available for hire on the same stretch of canal. The old canal warehouse on the wharf now houses a tea room preparing food on the premises, including Welsh cream teas, alongside a small gift shop. The wharf operates daily through the season, with horse-drawn sailings dependent on weather and towpath conditions.
