Microbus is a micropub set inside a railway arch on High Level Parade, directly opposite the entrance to Gateshead's High Level Bridge. Opened in 2022 by a group of campervan enthusiasts, it carries a Volkswagen and camper theme through its fit-out while keeping to micropub principles: a short, rotating range of cask and keg beers, no fruit machines and conversation over background music. The space is compact, as the format demands, and the arch setting gives it an unusual, slightly industrial character above the Tyne gorge. It draws drinkers crossing between Gateshead and Newcastle as well as locals after well-kept independent beer. As a single-site, owner-run bar it sits firmly in the region's micropub tradition rather than any pub company estate.
