NB Distillery began as a kitchen-scale gin operation in North Berwick in 2013, winning World's Best London Dry Gin at the World Gin Awards in 2015 before moving into a purpose-built eco distillery at Halflandbarns, on the coast road past Tantallon Castle. Jamie MacDonald, previously a rum developer for Appleton Estate, took over the business with partner Iain Bell in December 2023 and has expanded the range to include Navy Strength and Samphire gins, a vodka and a line of Scottish rums that won gold and silver at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition. The distillery runs tours and tasting experiences and operates a Cellar Door Shop on site on set afternoons, alongside a bottle refill scheme for regular customers. Production draws on barley and wheat grown in the surrounding fields, and the coastal setting is referenced directly in the Samphire gin's botanicals. All distilling and bottling is carried out at the single North Berwick site.
