Andrea McIver runs Parkgate Pottery from a garden studio at her home outside Newdigate, a few miles south of Dorking, having trained in fine art before turning to clay. She throws small-batch, wheel-made tableware and teaches wheel-throwing classes to beginners and improvers in the same space, working in small groups so each student gets proper time at a wheel with individual guidance. The studio sits away from the road, reached through the garden, which McIver has folded into the teaching experience alongside the pottery itself. Pieces range from everyday mugs and bowls to one-off decorative work, fired and finished on site before sale. Booking is required for classes, which run in blocks rather than as drop-in sessions, and finished pieces are collected once glazed and fired.
