The Pocklington Canal Amenity Society runs short passenger trips on its boat New Horizons from Melbourne Basin, a mooring behind the Melbourne Arms pub a few miles from Pocklington, reached by a short walk down the lane beside the pub. Trips run every Sunday and bank holiday from Good Friday until the end of October, departing from noon with the last trip around 4.15pm, and carry up to twelve passengers including children. There is no fixed fare; passengers are asked to make a donation toward the cost of licensing, insuring and maintaining the boat and restoring the canal itself. The Society, a registered charity formed in 1969, has run trips from Melbourne since 2004 as part of its work maintaining this stretch of the eighteenth-century Pocklington Canal for boaters, walkers and wildlife.
