Rossiters of Bath was founded in 1961 by Ann and Michael Rossiter, who took on the lease of a small tobacconist's shop at 40 Broad Street to sell Michael's handmade jewellery; that original space is now the store's greetings card department. Through the 1970s and 1980s the business expanded into neighbouring buildings, adding furniture from designers such as Terence Conran and Gordon Russell, a cook shop, and an interior design department. The Rossiters sold the business in 1999, and it has since been run by Peter and Ann-Marie James. It now spans four floors and seventeen rooms of furniture, homeware and gifts on Broad Street, trading from the single expanded site rather than as a chain of branches.
