Seahorse Bookstore

Gordon and Molly Murray opened Seahorse Bookstore in Ardrossan in August 2021, with their son Jack later joining the business, at a point when it was the only shop selling new books anywhere in North Ayrshire. The stock is arranged across three small rooms in the Winton Buildings premises: fiction, non-fiction and a children's room with a handful of toys alongside the picture books. The Murrays run a next-day ordering service for titles not on the shelves and host a Thursday evening book club, along with writing groups and occasional music nights in the shop. Customers can buy tea, coffee and biscuits shaped like the shop's seahorse mascot to have at the sofas while they browse. Seahorse Bookstore is open Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 2.30pm, with additional evening hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.
