The Talyllyn Railway runs narrow-gauge steam trains from Tywyn's Wharf station up the Fathew valley to Nant Gwernol, using rolling stock and locomotives dating back to 1865. Volunteers and staff operate the line, which was the first railway in the world saved by preservation, and visitors can walk from the upper terminus into the surrounding Snowdonia hills.
