The Ty Coch Inn stands on the beach at Porthdinllaen, a fishing hamlet near Morfa Nefyn on the Llŷn Peninsula, reached only on foot across a golf course or along the sand at low tide. The building dates to the eighteenth century and has served drinkers since 1842, most of that time under the same family, now run by Stuart, whose relatives have kept it for more than fifty years. It operates as a free house, with hanging tankards, ship's lanterns and old photographs covering walls that have barely changed in decades. Food service runs from midday to half past two, and dogs are welcome throughout. Its setting has seen it named among the world's best beach bars, though nothing about the inside has been dressed up for that reputation.
