The Anchor occupies a Grade II listed building on Bradford Street, its pub licence dating to 1797, among the oldest continuously licensed in Digbeth. The current building was constructed in 1901 to a design by James and Lister Lea for the Holt Brewery Company, with listed status following in 1991. Under earlier ownership the pub won the Campaign for Real Ale's West Midlands Regional Pub of the Year award four times, in 1996/97, 1998/99, 2003/04 and 2007/08. It closed in June 2025 and reopened on 30 October 2025 under new proprietor Peter Connolly, who also runs Nortons on nearby Meriden Street, with original bar fittings, leather bench seating and brass fixtures restored. It trades as a single-site pub serving cask ales, independent beers and Guinness, with its historic snug and lounge layout retained.
