The Arch Inn occupies one of the oldest buildings in Ullapool, a harbour town laid out by the British Fisheries Society from 1788. The stone structure dates to 1793 and originally served as a store and stabling point for fishermen and fish curers working the herring trade on Loch Broom; the archway that gives the pub its name once let packhorses through to the yard behind. The current business has traded as a pub since 1973, serving Scottish pub food upstairs Tuesday to Saturday evenings between April and October, alongside a bar pouring Cairngorm cask ales and rotating guests. Ten en-suite bedrooms occupy the upper floors, several looking over the loch. Live music - folk sessions, local bands and the odd touring comedian - runs through the year, and the bar draws locals outside the main visitor season. The inn has been listed among the Lonely Planet's world food experiences and featured in the guidebook Scotland the Best.
