The Children'sBookshop

Sanchita Basu De Sarkar owns the Children's Bookshop on Fortis Green Road, founded in 1974. In 2024 it won Children's Bookseller of the Year and Best Book Retailer of the Year at the British Book Awards, only the second independent shop to take the overall retailer prize in eleven years. The shop runs weekly storytimes, author events and book clubs, hosts signings with children's writers, and runs creative writing courses and school outreach programmes. It also donates books to charities and refugee centres as part of its regular work. Fifty years after opening, it remains a single-site independent shop on the same Muswell Hill street.
