The King William IV is a free house on Byttom Hill in Mickleham, in the Mole Valley below Box Hill. Built in 1790 as an alehouse for workers on the Cherkley Court estate, the building keeps its low beams and an open fireplace from that period. It is run independently by a family who use local produce and support small suppliers in the area, alongside a changing selection of real ales. The terrace and garden look out over the valley, a draw for walkers on the North Downs Way and around Box Hill. Food is served through the day from Wednesday to Sunday, and the pub hosts a weekly quiz night and occasional live jazz. Parking is free and dogs are welcome.
