The Line Gallery has run from a High Street shopfront in Linlithgow since at least the mid-2010s, under owners Gail and Elisabet. It is an independent contemporary art gallery rather than a council or trust-run exhibition space, mounting around twelve shows a year of fine and applied art. Exhibiting artists have included painters, photographers, printmakers, jewellers and basket makers drawn from Scotland and further afield, and the gallery is generally willing to arrange direct commissions between buyers and exhibiting artists. Past shows have paired Scottish and Scandinavian artists working in painting and textiles. The gallery sits within walking distance of Linlithgow Palace and the loch, and opens seven days a week, with shorter Sunday hours. It functions as both an exhibition space and a retail gallery, with work available to buy rather than only on display, distinguishing it from the town's council-run Burgh Halls gallery a short walk further along the High Street.
