The Salthouse occupies a Victorian terrace building on Dunamallaght Road in Ballycastle that formerly served as the local British Legion hall, converted into a boutique hotel in 2022. The 24-room property is powered by its own wind and solar generation and includes a small number of off-grid eco-lodges and a self-catering farmhouse in the grounds, alongside a bar and restaurant open to non-residents. The conversion kept elements of the original building while adding electric-vehicle charging and heat-pump heating throughout. It operates independently of the larger hotel groups represented elsewhere along the coast, trading instead as a single family-run property. Its position above the harbour gives most rooms a view toward Rathlin Island and Fair Head, and the hotel markets itself on its sustainability credentials rather than conventional luxury amenities.
