The Stevensons have fished out of Newlyn for over a century — the firm dates itself to 1918 — and still run one of the largest privately owned fishing fleets in Britain. Their shop on the Strand, close by the fish market, sells the morning's fresh catch, shellfish and frozen fish, with crab sandwiches, seafood pots and fish tapas to take away in summer. It has been run for around twenty-five years by Elaine Lorys, the first woman in the UK to be certified a Master Fishmonger. Orders are taken at the counter or by phone; the online shop has been retired.
