Wood St Coffee began in 2013 as a weekly stall at Wood Street Market, started by Clare and Gareth Reid before they moved their roasting operation into Blackhorse Workshop, a shared makers' space just off Sutherland Road. The pair roast single-origin beans in small batches on site, working directly with growers to source ethically traded green coffee. Alongside espresso and filter brews, the café serves pastries and sandwiches to a steady stream of regulars from the surrounding Blackhorse Lane creative quarter, an area of studios and workshops built into former industrial units. Wood St Coffee also wholesales its roasts to other independent cafés across Waltham Forest. Visitors can watch the roaster in action through the workshop's open-plan layout, a set-up that ties the café directly to the wider maker community around it.
