Barry Young and Noelle Carroll have run Young's Interesting Books on Skirving Street since 2008 — Shawlands' only independent bookseller, by the local press's count, and a Southside fixture of secondhand and vintage stock for well over fifteen years. The name is a promise the shelves keep: not a general secondhand jumble but a curated wander, the sort of shop where you go in for nothing and leave with something you didn't know existed. Glasgow's Southside has gentrified around it without displacing it, which in the current climate is its own small triumph. A neighbourhood bookshop that the neighbourhood evidently intends to keep.
