Louise and Trevor McLean work as basket-makers from a studio built into the remains of an old stone shed behind their home on the outskirts of Portrush, trading as Atlantic Craft NI from Atlantic Road. Louise is a willow artist who builds bespoke and traditional baskets using homegrown willow combined with driftwood, pebbles and other material gathered from the coastline, and has taught basketry courses across Northern Ireland and appeared on the television series Craft Master. Trevor works across several traditional coppice crafts, including chair-making and basketry, having trained with master basket-maker Joe Hogan in County Galway and studied chair-making in west Cork. Both exhibit and sell their work internationally as well as from the Portrush studio. Visitors can see work in progress and buy finished pieces directly, with workshops and courses run on site by arrangement rather than at fixed public opening hours.
