Baltic Clay

Chris Turrell and Don Parkinson set up what became Baltic Clay in Southport in 2014, moving the studio to Liverpool's Baltic Triangle in 2018 before relocating again to a first-floor unit on Dickson Street in the Ten Streets district. The studio runs an eight-week beginners' course in hand-building alongside shorter Saturday taster sessions, where newcomers throw a mug or tea-light holder from scratch under supervision. More experienced potters can join as Clay Clubbers, paying for ongoing access to wheels and kilns outside class times rather than booking individual sessions. The building closes on Everton match days, when street parking along Regent Road disappears, and visitors are asked to email ahead of a first visit. It remains one of the few clay studios in the city built primarily around teaching rather than retail.
